Create a Research Summary Assignment

What is a Research Summary and why use it?

A research summary is an overview of a student's key learnings from a source. Writing a research summary helps students think through what they understand and don’t understand.

A student's research summary should answer (or partially answer) their Natural Next question (NNQ). Their NNQ is a bite-sized research question that they believe is the most important question to answer next to get to their goal.

How do I create the assignment?

  • Log into your Learning Management System (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle)
  • Click your Beagle Instructor Module link
  • Click to "Open Beagle in new tab"
  • Click the purple "New Assignment" button in the top right
  • Choose "Research Summary" from the dropdown
  • Set the guiding Natural Next Question (NNQ)- set by you or set by the student
  • Customize your instructional text for students
